Since its founding in 1939, the Hernando de Soto Historical Society has been a cornerstone of
Manatee County’s community life, bringing people together to preserve local history and support charitable causes. With over 125 active members, this vibrant group organizes some of the area’s most beloved events, from lively parades to educational Crewe visits. These events not only highlight the county’s Spanish-American heritage but also contribute an estimated $3 million annually to the local economy.
“Our members are the heartbeat of our community,” says Gus Sokos, a long-time supporter of the society. “We’ve been able to achieve so much thanks to their passion and commitment.
