Calling All Young Women:

Apply Now for the De Soto Queen’s Court

The Hernando de Soto Historical Society is excited to announce that applications are now open for the prestigious De Soto Queen’s Court! For over 70 years, this beloved tradition has celebrated the remarkable achievements, leadership, and community spirit of young women in Manatee County. If you are passionate about history, community involvement, and want to represent a legacy of honor and heritage, this is your opportunity!

Meet the Current Royalty: A Legacy of Excellence
The current De Soto Queen Alexis Williams and Princess Kinsey Bunce are perfect examples of the impact the Queen’s Court has on young women. Alexis, a national baton twirling champion, is studying nursing at the State College of Florida and dreams of becoming a neonatal intensive care nurse. Kinsey, a weightlifting champion and aspiring nurse anesthetist, is committed to serving others, particularly veterans. Together, they embody the dedication, charisma, and passion that have defined the Court for generations.
As they represent the Hernando de Soto Historical Society, these young women actively engage with the community, promote cultural events, and raise awareness about the region’s rich heritage. Their reigns serve as a springboard for personal and professional growth, from participating in parades and community outreach to forging connections with dignitaries both locally and abroad.

The Role of the Queen’s Court
Being a part of the Queen’s Court is much more than a title—it’s a transformative experience. Ten outstanding young women will be selected to join the Court, each receiving a $750 scholarship and taking on the role of a goodwill ambassador for the Hernando de Soto Historical Society. Throughout the spring season, court members will:
  • Develop leadership skills and network with influential community members.
  • Mentor young Conquistadorables and engage in fun, community-building activities.
  • Participate in parades and special events, representing the Society with grace and pride.
  • Form lasting friendships and gain exposure through regional and national opportunities.
The journey culminates in the highly anticipated Investiture and Coronation Ball, where two exceptional young women will be crowned Queen and Princess. This isn’t just about wearing a crown; it’s about becoming a part of a historic legacy.

The Legacy Continues: A Tradition of Empowerment
Since 1941, the De Soto Queen has been chosen each spring to serve as a community ambassador, representing the Hernando de Soto Historical Society in Manatee County, across the nation, and even in our sister city of Barcarrota, Spain. The Queen and Princess will receive additional scholarships upon completing their reign, marking their time on the Court as both a rewarding experience and a stepping stone to future success.
