As the Hernando de Soto Historical Society approaches its Annual De Soto Heritage Festival, they like to kick things off with the beloved Children’s Parade. This is one of the most adorable and heart-warming events you’ll ever see. The De Soto Children’s Parade puts the kids in charge. Kids are encouraged to decorate nonmotorized floats with teacher and parent assistance, as they are built in schoolrooms and homes. Children decorate their floats to model that year’s theme.
This year’s theme is “Manatees Got Talent”. The children’s floats and/or performances allow students to showcase their Clubs, Sports Teams, Cheer Program, Musical Group, or any other special talent they want to promote. The 2023 De Soto Children’s Parade will be Friday, April 7th, starting at 10 AM. The parade route will follow the historic avenues of Palmetto, starting at the Manatee County Fairgrounds, south on 10th Avenue west and then along fifth street west to Lamp Park.
Immediately following the Children’s Parade, will be the Party In The Park, presented by the Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County. The Party In The Park features Community Agencies, offering free resources and information for parents. There are also free books available for kids, as well as games, face painting, and arts and crafts.
