On Wednesday evening, June 25th, the Hernando de Soto Historical Society hosted a memorable celebration during its annual De Soto Awards Night. This cherished tradition brought together members, community leaders, and supporters to honor the organization’s newest inductees and recognize the outstanding individuals who have made a significant impact over the past year.
This year, the Society proudly welcomed 14 new members into its ranks—an impressive Class of 2025 that reflects the growing legacy and continued commitment to service that defines the organization.

Philanthropy remains central to the Hernando de Soto Historical Society’s mission. Through its Conquistador Historical Foundation, the Society proudly awarded grants to several local nonprofits during the evening, continuing a tradition of giving that has donated more than $1 million to Manatee County since 2000.

Beds for Kids – $3,500
Denis V. Cooper Foundation – $3,500
Bradenton Blue Foundation – $5,000
Defibrillate Manatee – $5,000
The Vision Foundation – $17,000
Shuckin’ Good Cause – $27,118.88
In addition to these grants, they also provide $10,000 in scholarships to the Queen’s Court ladies, and fund a student ambassador program with Barcarrota Spain.
The Hernando de Soto Historical Society remains steadfast in its commitment to service, community, and legacy—uplifting lives and strengthening Manatee County through both tradition and action.
