Due to Hurricane Milton and its effects on the community, we have decided to postpone the 25th Annual De Soto Charity Golf Tournament. Many in our community have been affected, and we want to prioritize everyone’s well-being. We will announce a new date soon. Our hearts go out to all those impacted during this challenging time.
The Hernando de Soto Historical Society has made a significant impact by donating $5,000 to Beds for Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free beds to children in Manatee and Sarasota Counties. This generous contribution will help ensure that more children have the comfort and security of a bed to sleep in. The donation will specifically provide 20 twin beds to children in our community, making a tangible difference in their daily lives.
Beds for Kids was established as a small mission of the First United Methodist Church of Bradenton in 2017. With a growing number of requests for children’s beds, the organization incorporated in 2021 and received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. Partnering with organizations and government agencies, Beds for Kids identifies children who lack a proper bed and works diligently to fulfill these essential needs.
The $5,000 donation from the Hernando de Soto Historical Society will significantly enhance Beds for Kids’ ability to build and distribute beds to children in need. This contribution will provide 20 twin beds, ensuring that more children can enjoy the comfort and security of a proper bed.
Darrol Thompson, Director of Beds for Kids, expressed his gratitude in a heartfelt email:
”Dear Conquistadors, We appreciate your generous contribution of $5,000 which will be used toward the building and distribution of Beds For Kids, Inc. Manatee County children without the usual comforts we all enjoy are so happy to receive a comfortable bed of their very own to sleep in. God directs our steps as we find these needy children to assist and it’s the love and support of people like you who help make it possible. Thank you! Darrol Thompson, Director Beds For Kids, Inc.”
