As the vibrant atmosphere of the Annual De Soto Heritage Festival approaches, the Hernando de Soto Historical Society sets the stage with an enchanting event that captures the essence of community spirit and youthful creativity – the cherished Children’s Parade. This delightful spectacle is a heartwarming display of joy and imagination, where the little ones take center stage.
The De Soto Children’s Parade is a unique celebration where children are empowered to unleash their creativity. With the guidance of teachers and parents, they craft charming floats in schoolrooms and homes, adorned with decorations that reflect the theme of the year. This year, the theme is “MANATEE, MANATEE, What Do You See?” inspired by the beloved children’s book “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” This theme invites children to share their favorite aspects of life in Manatee County through the innocent lens of childhood wonder.
From the sandy beaches to the bustling Manatee County Fair, from the excitement of Pirates Baseball to the serene beauty of Robinson Preserve, children have the opportunity to showcase their unique perspectives on the community they call home. The participating group that best embodies this year’s theme will be awarded a $1,000 prize, adding an extra layer of excitement and friendly competition to the event.
In a gesture of support for community involvement and early childhood education, the Early Learning Center Coalition continues its tradition of generosity by providing a $500 stipend to the first ten schools or organizations participating in the parade. This contribution assists with float supplies and building materials, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to contribute to the festivities.
This year, the parade will feature an exciting innovation with the introduction of motorized vehicles to tow the floats, adding a dynamic element to the procession. On Friday, March 29th, at 10 AM, the streets of Palmetto will come alive with the joyous sounds of the Children’s Parade, tracing a historic route from the Manatee County Fairgrounds to Sutton and Lamp Park.
Following the parade, the festivities continue with the eagerly anticipated Party In The Park, presented by the Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County. This vibrant celebration offers a plethora of activities for families, including games, face painting, arts and crafts, and the popular ‘Touch-A-Truck’ experience, where children can explore a variety of vehicles up close. Additionally, community agencies will be present, providing valuable resources for parents and caregivers, making it a truly inclusive and enriching event for all.
The De Soto Children’s Parade and ELC Party in the Park embody the spirit of community unity, creativity, and celebration, bringing together families and neighbors to revel in the vibrant tapestry of Manatee County’s heritage and culture. It’s an event where memories are made, and the bonds of community are strengthened, ensuring that the spirit of togetherness continues to thrive for generations to come.
